Aside of this daemon, SSD Fan Control features a user-friendly application for monitoring and control. Whenever the SMC system resets to its default, SSD Fan Control takes over again to make sure that your system remains quiet. The core of the system is a daemon that runs in the background and takes care of the fan management. It enables you to overrule the automatic fan control and manually configure the fan speed. In both cases the SMC system tends to go into frenzy and drive you mad with a loud fan. Sometimes reusing the external sensor is not possible or, as in more recent generations of iMacs, replacing the original hard disk breaks the system’s temperature monitoring. Resetting the SMC with the default method (press power/TouchID button for 10 seconds) seems to have worked.

Possiblly add asmcload'YES' to the /boot/nf file if it doesn't get picked automatically on boot. On the 2018 MBP I’ve had erratic fan behavior after trying to manage fan speeds, first with iStat Menus, then with Macs Fan Control, so I reverted back to default system settings, but the fans kept running too high.

On a portable computer, such as a MacBook (Air/Pro), you would probably want a lower standby delay. The SMC collects data from external sensors or by reading the internal hard disk temperature in a proprietary manner. hggts350 said in Apple smc fan control: The above grep should then return results, if it does we can make the change permanent by placing the file in the /boot/modules path. The three commands above set the standby delay to 24 hours and the sleep (including display sleep) to ten minutes. Generally i will leave in default until the temperature is upto 55-59 degree celcius which will run at 1200-1300 by default.

Fan management in Apple systems relies on temperatures reported by the SMC system. I've been going through a slow fan moving issue so now i'm planning to do a custom fan spped up using SMC fan control. IMac users who tweak their systems using 3rd party hard disks or solid state disks, are often surprised by an unpleasant aftermath: an annoyingly noisy hard disk fan. Rate this 5 (Best) 4 3 2 1 (Worst) smcFanControl lets the user set the minimum speed of the built-in fans, so you can increase your minimum fan.
